CORPUS CHRISTI - An 18-year old led police on a chase through a local neighborhood Tuesday evening. It's the second time he's tried to run from police, but failed.
"I was inside and I heard the screeching of the tires so I came outside and I see this guy in front of my yard here," said Rudy Bernal.
That guy was 18 year old Arturo Bazan. Police say they had information that he was carrying narcotics so they were going to pull him over at Ayers and Horne. But he didn't stop and led police on a chase that ended at Dodd and Sunnybrook, where he tried to make a run for it.
"I was washing dishes and I heard the siren and the cop pulled up into the yard and then this dude is jumping the gate," said Lynette.
Neighbors say when he tried to run from police he dropped a gun in the street.
"That's very uncomfortable. To drop a gun right there. I mean I have my kids in the house and for him to just jump the gate," said Lynette.
Police ended up catching Bazan on the next street over. But what really made residents upset was that there were children playing in the street that could have gotten hurt.
"The kids are out here playing, you know so, for him to speeding around here that fast... thank God he hit that ditch," said Bernal.
Police did find crack cocaine in his pocket. Bazan will be arrested for evading arrest and possession.
