Police Chase Ends with 15 People Arrested

DRISCOLL -- A routine traffic violation sparked a brief chase Friday afternoon. It ended with a bailout on a county road just south of Driscoll.
Police arrested 15 undocumented workers after a Bishop police officer tried to pull over a white GMC truck for running a stop sign. Officers say the driver refused to pull over and that started a short chase. Once the vehicle finally did stop several illegal immigrants darted out of the truck from both sides.
Marcos Zavala lives in the area and says he spotted the people on the run.
"I seen them all over there had like 4 woman and possibly 4 more males," Marcos said.
He says he saw several people running through the brush, scaring the cattle that came running, that's when officers arrested some of the suspects.
"They headed back down here and I saw the cattle running, they got spooked from these people running," Marcos said.
Four women didn't get far and were arrested immediately. The rest of the passengers had to be tracked down on foot because the DPS helicopter was not available to lend a hand but that didn't stop Marcos from pointing people out.
"I stopped and I looked to the left and there was another few guys running so I took off back and told the guys down there constables and said hey there's another group over here on this side," Marcos said.
Officers say as they were arresting some of passengers they noticed a few suffered minor injuries from hopping over barbed wire fences and running through the brush.
All 15 passengers were caught and turned over to border patrol.
