CORPUS CHRISTI - Several homes on the island have been burglarized recently, but finally residents can rest a little easier. Police arrested one of the suspects today, but not before he got into a fight with an officer, and managed to briefly get away.

After eight burglaries in one week, officers were on high alert out on the island.

Senior Officer Michael Rogers has been on island patrol for around 4 years, and was investigating the break-ins when a nearby neighbor on Cutlass Avenue warned him of a suspicious looking jeep outside a home.

When he arrived there, Rogers says two suspects ran from the backyard of a home. A female was able to get away in the jeep, but the male was not so lucky.

Rogers says, "I found a prybar, and he swung his elbow at me and tried to knock me down, and tried to run. And when I grabbed a hold of him, we went down to the ground."

Rogers was able to tase the suspect, but not stop him. He got away on foot and took off towards Seamount Cay just off of Gypsy.

Rogers says, "He ran through some yards, through some front yards, and back yards, and I was chasing him about four or five blocks."

Police surrounded the area and even brought out the dogs to find the hiding suspect. He was hiding in a townhouse on Seamount Cay.

The suspect turned out to be a 16 year old teen who had a warrant for burglary, evading arrest, and possession of a controlled substance.

Rogers suffered some minor cuts and bruises, but was just happy to catch the suspected thief, "It's a big deal. He is victimizing a lot of people out here that feel safe in their own homes, and he is taking that away from them."

Police are still on the lookout for the female suspect who was described as short, large frame, and long brown hair. She was last seen driving a champagne colored jeep.
