Police, Car Owner Catch Up to Car Thief

CORPUS CHRISTI -- A suspected car thief crossed paths with police and the car's actual owner.

Police were on patrol on the city's north side when they spotted the white car.

The suspect had reported stolen the vehicle from his ex-girlfriend a few days ago.

Police tried to follow the driver, but he took off. He did not get very far because he was spotted by is ex-girlfriend on the Crosstown Expressway near Horne Road.

The car owner, Rosemary Robles, said the driver took off and hit some other vehicles.

Witness said the man got out of the car, popped the trunk, and took out a wheelchair.
He then rolled away in it.

Officers found him on Port Avenue and arrested him for auto theft.
