ROCKPORT - The playoffs are nothing new for the Rockport girls, as the Lady Pirates have become postseason regulars. Chris Bentley's bunch is already 7-2 in district play currently sitting in second place behind West Oso and ahead of Sinton.
"Nobody really has varsity experience, and it was tough, but we got through it and go this far and its really good," said Mona Nguyen.
Now the Bears have already clinched the district title, so the best Rockport can do is the second seed, but in order to snag the spot they must be Sinton on the road on Tuesday.
"We really are shooting for the region tourney it would be a great experience and it would build us more as a team and this is just fun with all these new people," said Shayla Ledger.
The path to this point has been a bumpy one, as Rockport struggled to find its identity early on after losing every single starters from the previous season.
"There is only three returners from varsity and none of us were starters but we are playing as a team and that's our goal," said Aubri Grover.
Their motto is team, they're a group who wins together and loses together. Plenty of new faces all with the same goal, a trip to the Region tournament.
Rockport has already clinched a playoff spot.
