SAN MARCOS - Relatives say a pilot who died in the Central Texas crash of his plane had some refurbishing work done before the accident.
Investigators say Thursday's crash near San Marcos killed 66-year-old Clarence Schollmeyer of Killdeer, N.D. Authorities are trying to determine what led to the fiery crash of the twin-engine Cessna during foggy conditions.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Robbie Barrera says the plane had taken off from San Marcos Municipal Airport, about 30 miles south of Austin. Barrera says the plane was attempting to return to the airport when the crash happened.
Mike Schollmeyer says his father was in Texas to get the plane reupholstered and repainted and was taking the aircraft for a test flight. The victim was alone on the aircraft.
