CORPUS CHRISTI - With over 600 miles of coastline in Texas, the Gulf Coast has become one of America's top surfing destinations. Photographer Kenny Braun celebrates what makes surfing in Texas so unique in his book, Surf Texas.
The Texas surf culture is unlike any other in the world. It's a setting where cowboys, hippies and even extreme athletes converge in their search for the "perfect swell." Surf Texas offers a distinctive look into way that vibrant surf culture that dominates the coastal towns -- from Galveston to South Padre Island and everywhere in between. Acquired over a 15-year period by Braun, he 144-page photo essay includes black-and-white images evoke feelings of nostalgia and desire, capturing the essence of what it truly means to be a Texas Surfer.
Kenny Braun will be at the Texas Surf Museum (309 N. Water St.) Saturday, August 2nd from 6-10 PM. The event is free and will include a mini-exhibition of fine art prints that appear in the book. Drinks and light refreshments will be available. Call (361) 882-2364 for more info.
