MCALLEN - A South Texas pharmacist and a drug store worker have been sentenced to federal prison for conspiring to defraud Medicaid.
Prosecutors say 56-year-old Sara Elicia Garza of Mission was sentenced Monday to two years in prison. A judge in McAllen ordered 18 months in prison for 39-year-old Valerie Jean Flores of Mission.
Both pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit health care fraud.
Garza ran Sara's Pharmacy and Gift Corner in Mission. Investigators say Garza forged prescriptions and submitted false claims. The drug store closed last October after being raided three months earlier.
Flores worked as a senior pharmacist technician.
Garza must make nearly $441,000 in restitution to several health care-related programs.
