Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Men's Tennis player Peter Nagy broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings on Tuesday, earning a ranking of No. 103 among more than 2,000 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis players in the nation.
The sophomore has continually worked on his game, doing extra after practice and going above and beyond the standard of the average college tennis player. Nagy dreams of one day representing his home country, Hungary, in Davis Cup Tennis competition, and works everyday towards that ultimate goal.
After winning two tournaments during the fall, Nagy has continued to compete well against the best in the nation. His best win of the year came in straight sets over No. 42 Patrick Kawka of BYU in the opening round of the 47th Annual HEB Tournament of Champions, and the second-year player has gone undefeated since a matchup against No. 43 Soren Hess-Olesen of the No. 14 Texas Longhorns. In total, Nagy has just three losses since the start of the fall season, with both singles losses in the spring coming against ranked opponents.
In addition to Nagy being ranked, the men's tennis team continues to be ranked nationally, earning a No. 53 ranking after picking up a win over Florida A&M last Friday night.
Nagy and the rest of the team will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Southern Miss at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. Match time is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start on the Islanders home courts as they look to pickup their sixth win on a row.
