CORPUS CHRISTI -The arson investigation continues tonight for the house on Cheyenne street. Fire investigators believe a gas can was used set the home on fire. Sunday the Moran family sifted through what was left, but they say it isn't much. What wasn't burned in the fire was damaged by water and smoke.
After speaking with their neighbors, the homeowners believe they know the man who set their home on fire. They say it was the wife's friend's husband. The neighbor also says he saw the man the through the gas can near the child's bedroom at the back of the house, then double check to make sure the house caught fire.
"It was with intention to set the house on fire because he threw gasoline through the window. The good thing was that my wife and the kids were not here. Because imagined if one of my kids or my wife would have gotten hurt, because if they did it would be a different story," said homeowner Arturo Moran.
The family is still staying with relatives.
Carlos Gutierrez, the man arrested and charged with DUI Saturday night now is a person of interest. When arrested police noticed he had a similar description to the man neighbors saw leaving the Moran home.
The Corpus Christi Fire Department says he's in the ICU in a San Antonio hospital. Gutierrez is being treated for severe burns to his arms and face. The fire department believes Gutierrez may have also inhaled flames. Investigators will question him this week.
