People Trying to Help Robstown Horses Actually Causing Harm

ROBSTOWN - Authorities continue to keep a close watch on some 20 horses found in bad shape this week.
Two horses were found dead on Monday after someone asked for a welfare check on the property owner.
The horses found dead were removed, bu tthe others were left at the property, while animal care officials try to nurse them back to health.
It's a story that has a lot of people concerned, but officials are asking the public to keep away from the animals.
Officials with Robstown Animal Control tell us these horses are actually on a strict all hay diet, and if you feed them something not in their diet, it will cause them more harm then good.
Director of Animal Control Jason Garcia tells us he has had to run three people off the property today, who brought food for the horses.
He says if you want to help the best thing would be to contact them at 387-2580 and he will be more then happy to let you know what you can do for the horses.
Garcia says, "We really appreciate the outpour of people trying to help us out. But like I said, sometimes meaning well can hurt the horses more then it can help them."
We caught up with one Robstown resident who was just trying to lend a helping hand.
Gilbert Yanez says, "I saw the news about the horses so I thought, hey why not go and help them out. I didn't know we weren't supposed to be trespassing."
No one who has been on the property will be cited, Garcia knows they were just tryign to help.
Garcia is still trying to track down the owner and we are still waiting to see if he will face any charges.
A vet will be re-evaluating the remaining horses tomorrow afternoon. Hopefulyl we will have some good news on their conditon then.
