CORPUS CHRISTI - A memorial service was held this afternoon for the late Judge Tom Greenwell.
As you may recall, he recently took his own life at this courthouse office.
An extremist church group which has picketed military funerals threatened to show up at the service, but never did.
They are a group who are anti-government and anti-gay.
Police were at the service to keep the peace as people walked in.
There was also a group of pastors and parishioners from Saint Bartholomew's who were there in case those protestors showed up. They wanted to make sure that today was about honoring a man who served this county, and not about forwarding an agenda.
We talked with some of the co-workers, friends, and local government officials who attended.
Sheriff Jim Kaelin said Greenwell was a hard worker, a great public servant, and a man he will miss.
