Orange Grove Man Dies During Chase, Shootout

ORANGE GROVE - A man is dead following a shootout with Orange Grove police last night. According to police, two officers were trying to pull over a car involved in a disturbance with a shotgun earlier in the evening.

The officers chased the suspect onto a dead end street. Police say 20-year-old Steve Torgerson fired one shot through the back window towards the officers. Moments later, officers heard a second shot from the vehicle as it backed up.

We're told officers fired three shots at the vehicle before it backed into their police cruiser. The officer did not hit the vehicle or suspect as he fired, according to polcie.

They approached the vehicle and found Togerson dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound from a shotgun.

The Texas Rangers are handling the investigation.
