Orange Grove Homeowners Waiting on Insurance Coverage to Kick In

ORANGE GROVE -- People living in Orange Grove are continuing to clean up after they were pounded by a storm. High winds and hail ripped through town early Friday morning, leaving a trail of destruction.

We caught up with an insurance adjuster out in the field today, he told us he spent today going from home to home drawing up reports on Friday's damage. He didn't have figures, but it does look substantial.

"We're waiting on these folks to, you know, start the little check writing process," Guadalupe Leal told us as he continued picking up the pieces left behind by wind and hail Friday morning.

Some property out in Orange Grove is in obvious need of roof repair, others are a little harder to notice from the ground, but adjusters are finding the damage is there. and that damage could cause leaks if it rains.

"As far as the shingles, our shingles are concerned, you know, you've got things marked where there may be a soft spot and so forth, but as far as the shingles are concerned they need extensive repair," Leal said.

Its not just roof repair Leal is waiting on, we found plywood covering what used to be a window, the skirt below the mobile home needs to be entirely replaced and all around the yard there are scattered pieces of what used to be a part of the home.

"Hopefully within 2 or 3 weeks we'll hear something from the main office in Tennessee," said Leal adding that the adjuster gave him that timeline.

While he waits for some repair, other issues he had to take care of immediately. For example, a toppled power pole left half his home without utilities, it also hit the water line. His family picked up the pieces to fix that. "Very fortunate that my stepson and nephew were in that field of work," Leal explained.

Leal tells us a lot of his friends and neighbors in the area are also dealing with window repair needs. We spotted several plywood boards up until that damage can get fixed.
