One Man Is Dead After An Overnight Standoff With Police

CORPUS CHRISTI -- A 56-year-old man is dead after a standoff with police.

The standoff happened on the 1100 block of Salem Drive before nine last night. Police say the man had mental illness and felt threatened by his neighbors.

He barricaded himself inside his home and was armed.

Eventually, gunfire was exchanged between the man and police around 2:30 early this morning, and the man was struck. He died at the hospital.

Police say this investigation is ongoing. We will have more information for you as it becomes available.
