CORPUS CHRISTI - A chase involving suspected illegal immigrants left one person dead and seven others hospitalized near Premont.

The chase began just outside of Premont this morning when a DPS trooper tried to pull over a Dodge pickup with an expired sticker. The driver wouldn't stop but during the pursuit the truck went out of control and rolled into a field.

Three people were taken by Halo Flight to Corpus Christi. Five others went to hospitals in Alice and Kingsville by ambulance.

A 24-year-old Mexican national died as a result of injuries. Four others were treated at the scene and turned over to the Border Patrol. We're told the driver was among those injured.
