CALIFORNIA - A Los Angeles police officer survived being shot seven times by a gunman who walked into a police station lobby and opened fire last night.
A tremendous police presence on the street and the roof of the Wilshire Station after a man walked in and started firing inside the west traffic division lobby around 8 pm
"Stated something to the effect of I have a complaint to make, withdrew a handgun and started opening fire on my front desk officers. One officer was struck four times, luckily for us he had his vest on." Dennis Kato, LAPD Commander said, "That officer and a second officer returned fire striking the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital."
The LAPD says there was a meeting underway during the shooting in an adjacent community room.
No one there was injured, but they're all being questioned now.
The thought of a shooting inside a police facility gives the community pause.
"When I came I asked one of the officers and he told me an officer got shot. Actually I asked if he was shot by another officer and he said no it was a stranger."
"A station is an easy target, luckily our officers reacted the way they were trained to and were wearing the proper body armor and I think that's why they're going to survive this attack."
