Off-Duty Dallas Officer Fatally Shoots Man

DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police say an off-duty officer has fatally shot a man who tried to force his way into a family's vehicle.

Dallas police Maj. Jeff Cotner says the shooting happened Sunday night near downtown.

He says police received a 911 call that a man was making lewd comments to women. Cotner says an off-duty officer working a neighborhood patrol job confronted a man matching the description. The man tried to force his way into a passing vehicle.

Cotner says the man moved toward the officer in "a manner perceived to be dangerous" and refused orders to stop. He says the officer shot him multiple times. It's unclear if he was armed.

He was taken to an area hospital where he died. The officer was unhurt. Neither has been identified.
