CORPUS CHRISTI - After this weekend's hit and run on Ocean Drive, we went out to the road to see how bad the speeding is.
According to the city, there were nearly 1,000 speeding tickets given on Ocean Drive in the last year.
Right when we got out there, there was already a car pulled over. Police say the vehicle was going 52mph in a 40mph zone.
Officer John Elliott was writing the ticket, and he says he catches anywhere from 20 to 40 speeders on Ocean Drive in a given day.
"It's always been a problem for speeding. It's one of the roads that we continually get complaints about," he says.
He told us the highest speed he had caught someone going this morning was 58mph.
Unfortunately, we were able to top that when we checked for speeders. We found someone going over 60mph.
Ronnie Crisp jogs on Ocean Drive every morning.
"Oh yeah. They speed a lot," he says.
He added he's even had some close calls in the bicycle lane when he jogs there.
So when it comes to speeding and Ocean Drive, Officer Elliott sums it up best.
"Ocean Drive, it's non-stop. It's just non-stop," he says.
