CORPUS CHRISTI - A Nueces County inmate who was supposed to be cleaning up a city park is now facing escape charges after he made a run for it.
Sheriff's Department officials say last Thursday, 22-year old Christopher Jones was cleaning a park along Paul Jones Avenue with five other inmates when he told a guard he had to go to the restroom. When the guard realized he hadn't returned, he called police.
A few minutes later, a police officer found Jones walking on the side of the road, with his jail uniform turned inside out. Investigators believe Jones had broken into someone's car because he was holding a laptop and some cash. Jones was arrested.
Meanwhile, there's no word on whether the guard who was with Jones will be reprimanded for the incident.
