COLLEYVILLE, Texas (AP) - Police say a 49-year-old man was killed by North Texas authorities during a two-hour standoff after he burst from a home and pointed a handgun at them.
The unidentified man was shot multiple times Thursday when he exited the home in Colleyville, about 15 miles northeast of Fort Worth. Officers had spoken by phone with him but he refused to leave, prompting SWAT units to respond.
Colleyville Police Chief Mike Holder says police initially responded after getting a call that the man was armed and headed to the home to harm his family.
He says the man's daughter was in the home during the standoff. He says police dealing with the man in past domestic incidents had been told by family members that he had issues with mental illness.
