CORPUS CHRISTI - Homicide detectives continue investigating the murder of 77-year-old Johanna Christy. Her mutilated body was found in a shallow grave behind her home on Bentwood late Monday night.
The Nueces County Medical Examiner says her body was cut up into large pieces with a sharp object. Her cause of death is listed as 'homicidal violence.'
Officials say after examining her body they still don't know whether or not she was alive or dead when her body was dismembered.
Detectives tell us after more than 48 hours of investigation they do have a person of interest in the case, but they would not confirm or deny if the victim's grandson is a suspect.
27-year-old David Christy, who lived with his grandmother, fled when police arrived at the home on Monday. He was later caught at a nearby apartment complex.
For now, he's being held in the Nueces County Jail on $11,000 in bond for charges of assaulting a public servant, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
Police tell us they first came to the woman's home based on a request for a welfare check from her son who lives in San Antonio.
We're told the son was notified about the death of his mother, but they have not heard from him since.
