ROCKPORT- There's a new restaurant in Rockport that got on the Top 50 list of best Bar-B-Que in Texas in their latest edition of Texas Monthly magazine!
Hatfields Bar-B-Que and Blackjacks Beer Garden just opened in November last year.
Kenny Hatfield says, "It's just I knew that it would do good. And I hoped that it would do as well as this, but to make the Top 50 of the Texas Monthly is incredible honor."Every 5 years, the magazine dispatches a team of 16 tasters. This time they ate at 658 of the near 2,000 bar-b-que places through-out the state over 8 months.
The final score considers things like its setting, service, and history, but mostly the taste of the meat. The brisket counts the most.
Customers agree that it tastes great!
Loraine Dedeau and Stormy Crippen say, "His brisket, I think it's is brisket mostly, his ribs are real good too. The ribs are great, the pork butt just as good. He's expanded his menu a lot."
Pit master, George Gracia, cooks each day at 250 degrees with oak and mesquite wood.
George Gracia says, "We cook these for about 3 and a half hours right here on the pit. And we do it with a lot of love at Hatfields, that helps us a lot."
The pit master says he dry rubs on the secret ingredients.
And it's not only the food that's great, the atmosphere is also inviting.
There's seating inside and out and the restaurant offers entertainment as well.
