CORPUS CHRISTI - The city has appointed a new City Attorney. Her name is Roxann Cotroneo, and she's the former city attorney for Harlingen.
So, we took a look at how much money she'll be making, and how it stacks up against other city attorney's in cities throughout the state, similar in size to Corpus Christi.
Cotroneo will be making $151,661 a year. That makes her the second highest paid city employee behind the City Manager.
She'll be making nearly $11,000 more than the former City Attorney, Carlos Valdez.
Here's a look at what other cities in Texas pay for the position:
City council member Chad Magill says he supports the salary, citing the fact the city attorney handles all litigation issues for the city.
Issues that can cost lots of taxpayer money the longer they go on, and a well paid, experienced attorney can be an asset.
But he added the salary is substantial, and he'll be eager to see results.
"I'm big on return on investment, especially with tax dollars, and every tax dollar out, I look for that return on investment. So I'm looking forward to her getting to work," he says.
The City Council still has to approve the appointment. They are expected to do so.
