Neighbors Claim Dog Breeding Operation Wakes Them Up In Middle of Night

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Homeowners by the Lakes Subdivision claim a neighbor is breeding dogs on his property and the animals are keeping them up at night.

The city and the neighborhood association haven't been able to stop it even though it's against the rules.

After receiving a complaint by email, we decided to knock on some doors in then neighborhood, and that's where we found neighbor Gary Pack. His backyard runs parallel to the home in question. He tells us the dogs get a little loud after midnight.

The email tipster reported the same exact thing and even provided pictures of several dogs in pens in the backyard of that home. They say the barking comes from a home on Lake Micala.

We went to the home to ask what's going on.

"Are you all breeding pit bulls here," Janine Reyes asked. The woman denied breeding the dogs, but said she does own some. "Pocket Bully's, not Pit Bulls," she responded, "it's a whole different breed."

She tells us there are just two. We did find an online listing for Pocket Bully dogs for sale. The ad was posted in February.

She didn't give her name, but told us the complaint came from a neighbor who does not like black people.

"You think it's just a feud with another neighbor," Reyes asked. "Yes, that's it," she replied, then slammed the door.

Pack moved into the neighborhood in March, he did not file that complaint, or another one that he found on the City of Corpus Christi app. The complaint references "dogs barking non-stop every night at all hours" and waking up children.

Pack is losing sleep too and says the problem would have been enough to keep him from moving in to begin with, had he known about it.

"It's been going on since March. It's May, so, I think it's probably an ongoing problem," Pack said.

The president of the Diamond Lakes Homeowners Association tell us they've notified the homeowner about the breeding restrictions that they say are being violated inside the home.

The problem is the people living in the home are renters. The association also has to give the homeowner 30 days to comply. Once the 30 days pass, they plan to refer the situation to their legal department. The association says they have already spoken to the police department.
