Neighbor Remembers Murder Victim, Friend

ARANSAS PASS -- Elva Fuentes lived across the street from Maria DeLeon for most of her life. Her children were friends with DeLeon, and so was she. The two still spoke even after DeLeon moved away several years ago. That's why Fuentes was shocked when she heard her friend was murdered.

"I talked to her a couple of weeks ago on Facebook and she seemed happy, but, like I said, I've known her for a long time. Something was wrong, but she never did say what was wrong."

Fuentes said she only met DeLeon's fiancee Remus Litoiu -- who is now the prime suspect in her murder -- once, but said they appeared happy in public. "Her and him would take pictures all the time together and they were always smiling and stuff...."

Fuentes said DeLeon was planning to start a family soon, but said something was holding her back.
