ARANSAS PASS - A thief made off with a car full of expensive items in Aransas Pass late last night on Windy Oaks Drive, and security cameras caught the whole thing.

"We bought it over the Summer because we were having problems with eggers."

When Ruth Miller bought her home security camera, she didn't expect to catch anything more than a few vandals. But late Friday night, her camera recorded a much bigger crime occurring right in front of her house.

In the video, you can see a man walk up to her husband's truck and jiggle the handle.

"And of course it's locked. So, he wasn't able to get into it. And then he kind of pauses and that's when we believe he went into the driveway," Miller said.

Now out of frame, the mystery man opened a different Miller car, because it was left unlocked.

Miller told me, "They did break into my son's car and kind of trashed it, papers were thrown about."

But Ruth's son was lucky, because the thief wasn't done yet. Moment's later, you can see the man start up the car across the street and take off.

"I went out that morning, to start my car for my two small kids so it would be warm. It was kind of cold that morning. Opened the garage and the car was gone!"

Dawn Miller immediately called the police, who came and took down a report. But it wasn't just the car that was stolen.

"We're in the process of moving and my car was completely loaded down. It had laptops and lots of personal items in there," Mellinger said.

Including her children's backpacks and books. Now, Dawn is leaning on her neighbors, who are lending her their vehicle to finish the move.

Dawn told me, "You know, it's an inconvenience. All of my stuff is gone, it's the weekend. I have no way of getting cash out of the bank. I don't have anything to drive!"

And now Dawn Mellinger is hoping the smart thinking of her neighbors, to install the security camera, will help them track this thief down.

Mellinger described the car as a black Toyota Carolla, with a pink "Mojo" sticker on the back windshield.

We talked to the Aransas Pass police chief who said three to five other cars were also "hit" in that neighborhood, most of them left unlocked.
