CORPUS CHRISTI - A trusted source has confirmed to me that in 2013 the American Bank Center will play host to a "Major" NCAA Basketball Tournament during Thanksgiving Weekend, we first found out about the tournament last week, and were the first to report it.
The Corpus Christi Challenge will be invitation only, and will involve multiple SEC schools. The Aggies of Texas A&M will be in action along with Virginia, SMU, Missouri State, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Hampton University, Liberty University and Sam Houston State. The Islanders of A&M-Corpus Christi however will not take part in the event, despite the American Bank Center serving as their home court.
The Aggies last played at the American Bank Center in 2010 in front of 6,071 fans defeating the Islanders 86-65. That was the largest turnout of the season, and the largest in the last two years.
