NCAA Basketball Tournament Moves to Corpus Christi for 2013

Corpus Christi, TX - November 26, 2012 - The Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the arrival of the Corpus Christi Challenge, a NCAA Basketball Invitational Tournament, to be held Thanksgiving Weekend 2013. The field for the inaugural event includes Texas A&M University, SMU, Virginia, Missouri State, Sam Houston State University, Hampton University, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Liberty University.

Tournament play will include four games for each team with two games held at campus sites and two final games held at the American Bank Center Arena. Games will also be aired on national sports network television outlets.


"We are excited to have this tournament and the opportunity to showcase our community," says Keith Arnold, CEO for the CC CVB. He adds, "Corpus Christi is not only a great place to visit, but is also growing as an amateur sports destination."

Texas A&M Coach Billy Kennedy says, "The Corpus Christi Challenge is going to be a great event that will give Aggie fans the chance to come out and see us play against some really quality opponents and challenge us to prepare for games in the SEC."

Virginia head coach, Tony Bennett is looking forward to competing in this tournament and says, "We are excited to play in the Corpus Christi Challenge. This is part of an effort to improve our non-conference schedule by playing teams like Texas A&M, SMU and Missouri State.
