National Weiner Dog Races in Corpus Christi This Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI - For the first time, the Wienerschnitzel Nationals is coming to Corpus Christi. The event is a Wiener dog race set for Oct. 19 at Cabaniss Field. Each dog will dash 10 yards.

The winner of the regional competition in Corpus Christi will get an expense-free trip to San Diego where the dogs will race for the title of "fastest wiener in the west." The top dog will get his or her picture featured on a float in the big Wienerschnitzel parade in San Diego.

So far, over 40 applicants have registered for the race. The fee is $5 for all dogs but free to the public. At the event, Wienerschnitzel will also raffle off a BBQ grill with all the fixings.

Tickets for the raffle also cost $5. Wienerschnitzel will donate all the proceeds to the Gulf Coast Humane Society for regular maintenance of a building constructed in 1998.
