PYONGYANG -- North Korean state television released a statement today that warned of military action against the U.S. in retaliation for U.S. bombers flying over the Korean Peninsula last week.
The flights are part of a joint U.S./South Korea military drill.
Today's statement from North Korea says the drill is a hostile act aimed at encroaching upon the sovereignty of North Korea.
North Korea regularly protests against the annual military exercises carried out by the U.S. and South Korean militaries, but this year the North's protests are sharper than usual.
North Korean central television issued an air raid alert this morning insisting its military quickly take measures to prevent damage from an enemy air strike.
