Murder Suspect Released From Jail, Charges Dropped

FLOUR BLUFF -- The District Attorney's office has dropped charges against the man charged with fatally stabbing another man earlier this week. Authorities are dropping murder charges against Mark Baker, 47. Police arrested Baker, Thursday morning at Timon's Ministries, where he works as a cook.
Investigators believed he was the man who fatally stabbed Samuel Moore, 24, Tuesday night. Now they have new evidence that takes the case in a different direction.
This morning Baker was in court officially charged with murder and his bond was set at 500,000 but just hours later those charges were dropped. Baker was released from the Nueces County Jail around 5 o'clock.
A close friend of Baker's says she's known him for 10 years and says he'd never lay a hand on anyone.
"Marky is such a gentle soul, he goes out of his way to help anyone," a woman said.
However, that didn't stop a witness from identifying Baker in a 6 man photo line up as the man she saw stab Samuel Moore, 24, Tuesday night at the corner of Waldron and Fawn.
Police say witnesses told them they saw Baker holding a knife in his right hand and swinging it at Moore, people that know Baker say he would never do anything like that.
"Marky could not have done this, I think they have the wrong man in custody," she said.
At noon Friday, the District Attorney's office dropped the charge, giving his friend her wish.
"I just hope they find the person that really did it and Marky gets to come home," she said.
County officials say an officer working the case, says new information has surfaced, that's taken the investigation in a different direction.
