CORPUS CHRISTI - A rush hour accident shut down much of westbound South Padre Island Drive this morning. Police say around 8 this morning a motorcycle driver was approaching the Crosstown interchange, but he failed to slow down for traffic that had almost come to a stop in front of him.
The motorcyclist rear-ended a car and was thrown from his bike. He wasn't seriously injured but while police worked that wreck, onlookers caused at least three other minor accidents.
Police have some advice for drivers who find themselves in situations like this.
"There should always be a safety zone between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, especially during rush hour traffic, heavy congested traffic..and, uh, it's always speed and just not paying attention is always a factor," says Lt. Robert Alvarado.
The motorcyclist was ticketed for failure to control his speed.
Police also had to shutdown all but one lane of SPID in the area of the accidents. That caused a huge traffic pileup that made a lot of folks late for work.
