CORPUS CHRISTI - They say that a smile is worth a thousand words, but what about a man having a thousand reasons to smile. That might best describe the guy the Harlem Globetrotters call Cheese Chisholm.

The 26-year old New York native is in town with the world famous Trotters as the team prepares for their Sunday Show at the American Bank Center. Chisholm though found a few minutes to spend at our studio sharing his story of never giving up.

A high school player in the Bronx he told me his size caused college coaches to overlook him. Admitting plenty of people along the way told him that he would never make it as a basketball player, but rather than believing what he heard he simply decided to out work every other athlete.

"I always told I was too small and too skinny and I am skinny I am 165 pounds but I had a big heart and that's what matters," he said.

After high school he spent a year at a prep school then another at a junior college before finding a home at Ball State University in Indiana.

Even though his college dreams of playing Division I basketball had come true his work ethic did not change.

"In college I used to shoot a thousand jump shots before class and I had class at six in the morning so that's a lot of work. But you gotta put hard work into something you love," he said.

After college Cheese tried out for the Globetrotters and made the team, he's now entering his third season and has already been to 25-different countries.

"To play for them you gotta be three things, you have to be a great player, a great person, and a great entertainer all wrapped into one. That makes you a Harlem Globetrotter," he said.

Check out the show on Sunday at 2pm at the American Bank Center.
