Mother of Three Hit By SUV and Killed

ODEM -- A Taft woman died last night after being hit by an SUV on Highway 77 in Odem.

Troopers tell us the victim was 32-year-old Melinda Maldonado who leaves behind 3 daughters.

They will now stay with their aunt.

Melinda's older sister, Lisa Molina, says her sister was celebrating her 32nd birthday at a game room in Odem last night.

Molina says Melinda and her boyfriend got into an argument at the game room and her boyfriend drove off, leaving Melinda stranded.

That's when witness' say Melinda walked out onto Highway 77 and was struck by an SUV carrying a family on their way home from the movies.

Police say Melinda died at the scene of the accident.

Molina said, "We were very close. It was very, very heartbreaking whenever I heard the news."

Police say the driver of the SUV was not cited for the accident.
