CORPUS CHRISTI - Investigators are now treating the death of 5-month-old Lilly-Ann Gonzales as a homicide. The baby's aunt found the girl face down in her crib yesterday afternoon as she came to check on the family living in the 2500 block of Nogales.
The baby's mother and her boyfriend were taken in for questioning by police. We're told both were asleep when the aunt showed up at 4 p.m. The mother and boyfriend said the last time the checked on the girl was 4 a.m. before they fell asleep in the same room where the crib is kept.
A family member tells us the boyfriend is not the father of the child. We're told the child's mother married shortly after giving birth, but moved in with the boyfriend after her husband joined the military.
There is no ruling from the medical examiner on how the child died.
"They'll probably do a skeletal exam of the baby, see if anything else was wrong with the baby. And then the medical examiner will probably.. see if there was any trauma to the baby," said Lt. Brian Hill of the Corpus Christi Police Department.
