CORPUS CHRISTI - Employees at a Cricket Wireless store on Ayers Street called police this afternoon when a woman pushing a baby in a stroller allegedly grabbed cash from a register when the clerk wasn't looking.
The clerk, who apparently had a lot of customers in the store, was taken advantage of as she turned her back on the counter.
According to police, the store knew exactly how much money was in the register considering they hadn't used it yet that day. Based on the detailed description given by the clerk, police stopped a woman walking down Ayers with a child in a stroller.
An officer says as they were questioning 32-year-old Renee Guerrero when the child leaned forward and they could see a wad of bills sticking up out of the child's diaper.
At that point, police say the mother admitted to the theft. The cash found in the diaper matched the denominations and amount taken from the shop.
Police had the woman call a family member to come pick up her daughter before she was taken to jail on a misdemeanor theft charge.
The $93 was returned to the store.
