Mostly Passing Grades For Coastal Bend Schools and Districts

CORPUS CHRISTI - Test scores for area schools are in, and for the most part, they're good.

Only a handful of districts didn't make the grade.

Robstown ISD, Woodsboro ISD, and Premont ISD all received a rating of "Improvement Required".

As a whole, CCISD met the standard for the second year in a row, but 11 individual campuses did not.

In order for a public school in Texas to receive a passing grade, it has to score well in four categories.

If only one is missed, the rating is "Improvement Required".

In CCISD, five campuses missed just one category:
-Evans Elementary
-Gibson Elementary
-Zavala Elementary
-Cunningham Middle School
-Haas Middle School

One campus met the standard in half the categories:
-Kostoryz Elementary

Four campuses met the standard in only one category:
-Oak Park Elementary
-TG Allen Elementary
-Driscoll Middle School
-Martin Middle School

One campus didn't meet the standard in any categories:
-South Park Middle School

"We have some heavy lifting to do there," said CCISD Superintendent Scott Elliff.

But overall, the district's outgoing superintendent is pleased, because last year, there were 18 schools on that low performing list, and this year, there are only 11.

"We did a lot better than we did last year. So am I disappointed that we didn't have 100 percent of our campuses meet the standard? A bit. Am I really proud and encouraged by those campuses that did make progress, and those campuses that didn't but came oh so close? Absolutely," he said.

Those campuses that did fall short in one or more areas face more oversight or inspections by the state.
