CORPUS CHRISTI - Warmer temperatures and sunny skies mean you'll probably be spending more time outdoors. The city is starting preparations with the mosquito season underway.
To have a red, itchy, bump from a mosquito is the pits. It's annoying and certainly not something anyone wants to experience. In order to reduce the amount of those pesky insects the city's vector control has whipped up a batch of mosquito bait, gone out to set traps, and has begun to check them everyday.
Tony Pantoja, with Vector Control, says, "As soon as we get the hard rain then we'll know that we're going to start working. We just tell everyone to be patient with us."
Crews currently have eight traps in areas from Calallen to Padre Island, in places like the Botanical Gardens and Bill Witt Park.
Dawn English, runs six to seven days out of the week, and says she avoids running close to Corpus Christi Bay and through grassy areas where explosions of mosquitoes are likely to be found.
