MOSCOW (AP) - Russia's Foreign Ministry has deplored a U.S. judge's decision to deny bail to Russian citizens accused of conspiring to illicitly sell advanced technology to Russia.
Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the judge's refusal to grant bail to the detained Russian citizens was based on "far-fetched reasons" and called the verdict "unfair."
She said Friday that Russian diplomats and defense attorneys will seek to overturn the ruling and demand an end to "the psychological and moral pressure being applied on the detained Russians to force them to 'voluntarily' admit their guilt."
A Houston judge last week ordered Alexander Fishenko, owner of Houston-based Arc Electronics Inc., and two other defendants to federal custody in Brooklyn, New York, where they will face charges on Oct. 18.
