More Than 20 Puppies On Death Row At The Pound

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Around 20 puppies are on death row at Corpus Christi Animal Control.
They all came in this weekend.
Some strays, others given up by people who didn't want them.
Captain Russell Sherman with CCPD said, "The honest truth is we have more puppies than we have people willing to take care of them."
Whatever their past, the future for the puppies will be the same, if they don't find a permanent home soon.
Captain Sherman said, "What we really need from the public is to foster these animals out and give them a good home and help us find a good family that might want the dog."
Some of the puppies were scheduled to be euthanized today, but got an extension on life.
It can't go on forever though.
Angela Powell with For the Love of Strays said, "Once again I want to stress that this is urgent. These puppies are going to die. People that can help need to come down here and fill out an application."
Powell saw the plea for help to save the puppies on Facebook and pulled two from the pound.
She said, "These were in greater danger because their time was really running out."
Animal control officers could not give an exact date on when the pups will be euthanized,
but say if someone doesn't take them home soon, they'll have no choice because space is running out and more dogs are coming in.
Captain Sherman said, "We try to get as many animals as we can out of here but it's the unfortunate truth, we can't save all of them."
If you're interested in providing a home for one of these puppies, Animal Control will be open tomorrow from 1 o'clock in the afternoon to 5:45.
You will need to fill out an application.
If you have dogs in your home, you will need to provide proof that they've received all their shots.
When you foster a puppy and decide to adopt it, you must bring it back to the pound to be spayed or neutered which costs between $45-$55.
The organization, For The Love of Strays, took in two puppies and is in need of donations so the puppies can get their checkups and vaccinations.
The group also needs blankets, newspapers, pee pads, puppy food and toys.
