YUCAIPA, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol says the scene at a tour bus crash is so chaotic that as many as 10 people may have been killed. Officials say right now they've counted eight dead and 38 injured.

California Department of Transportation spokeswoman Michelle Profant describes the scene as shocking with some bodies not intact.

The crash happened last night when the bus carrying Mexican tourists down a Southern California mountain road struck a car, flipped and plowed into a pickup truck pulling a trailer.

The bus driver told investigators the bus had brake problems as it headed down State Route 38, which runs through the San Bernardino National Forest to Big Bear. The bus was leaving the forest on its way back to Tijuana, Mexico.

Lettering on the bus indicates it was operated by Scapadas Magicas LLC, a company based in National City, Calif. Federal transportation records show the company is licensed to carry passengers for interstate travel and that it had no crashes in the past two years.
