CORPUS CHRISTI- The high school softball season is here. One team that is very excited to get back on the diamond is the Lady Trojans of Moody.
Last year coach Paula Salinas' team went 26-9-3 and reached the 4th round of the playoffs before getting knocked out of the postseason by New Braunfels Canyon.
This year Moody is hoping to go deeper than the last few years, and feel like this is the team that has a chance to do it.
"We are very ready. We have a lot of newcomers coming in and have 8 seniors this year, and we are all very experienced. With that experience, we will be going very far." Senior Jessica Mendez said.
"Yes, we have a lot of experience which helps us a lot. A lot of them have been through he playoffs and know what it feels like. We are just hungry to get to state." Sophomore Brittany Martinez said.
Among the eight returning seniors is shortstop Jessica Mendez who just committed to play for Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Last year Mendez hit .472 with 36 runs batted in, 15 triples, 8 homeruns to go with her 60 hits.
"It's very important for us to keep up with the moody trojan tradition because we don't want to be known as that losing team. We had a long winning streak, I guess." Senior Kayla Serrato said.
Moody will play their first game of the season Monday, February 11th, at Cabaniss Field.
