KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The mother who reported her son to police after fearing he was planning to attack a southeast Missouri movie theater says he'd recently asked her if he was a failure.
Tricia Lammers made her first public statements Tuesday since the arrest last week of her 20-year-old son, Blaec.
Authorities say he plotted to attack the Bolivar theater during the new "Twilight" film, then a nearby Wal-Mart. Investigators say he'd recently purchased two assault rifles and 400 rounds of ammunition.
KLOR-TV reports his mother spoke at the National Alliance for Mental Illness in Springfield.
She said her son has undergone inpatient treatment and shows signs of Asperger's syndrome, borderline personality disorder and other conditions.
She says, "he didn't ask to be born different" and told him he wasn't a failure.
