CORPUS CHRISTI -- Daniel Minor is officially a member of the Houston Astros organization. Just days after the 21-year old became the highest Major League Draft pick in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi history, Minor signed a $50,000 contract with the Houston Astros.

"It's a dream come true. I wanted to do this my whole life. Now i'm getting the opportunity to and thankful and excited to keep playing," said Minor in an interview with KRIS Sports today.

"Knowing that now I'm getting paid to play baseball is overwhelming and a lot to take in but can't wait to start playing."

Minor said he will leave Wednesday for rookie ball in Greeneville, Tennessee (Greeneville Astros - Appalachian League). In the fall, the right-handed pitcher may head to the instructional league, but Minor says he hopes to make it to spring training healthy and see where his career goes from there.

"(I've) been an Astros fan since I was young, in the (Jeff) Bagwell and (Craig) Biggio days, so this is a dream come true to play for (Houston)."

Minor, who still had a year of college eligibility left, said he needed to sit down with his family and weigh out the options, but when it came down to make the decision he was read to begin his professional career.

"This is the dream, and you can't pass up a dream. It was a fun year with (the Islanders), and I'm thankful for coaches and teammates and being around that atmosphere. It may not have ended how we wanted, but it was a memorable season and something I'll never forget."

This season with the Islanders, the right-handed pitcher had a 2.20 ERA (lowest in the Southland Conference) and 110 strikeouts (2nd in the SLC) while tying the school record with 10 wins. Minor was also named the Southland Conference Newcomers of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference First Team.

Minor is the 7th Islander to be drafted. He was taken with the opening pick of the 9th Round (279th overall) in the 2012 MLB Draft. The previous high selection from the A&M-CC program was pitcher Todd Simko, who was drafted in the 21st round (637th overall) in 2011 by the Washington Nationals.
