Mexican National Indicted on Weapons Smuggling Charge

CORPUS CHRISTI - A Mexican national is under federal indictment on charges he attempted to smuggle 35 AK-47 style rifles into Mexico.

Back on October 29th, the Kingsville Task Force says they found the rifles, 33 ammo magazines, and cash stashed in a Dodge Ram heading south.

Federal officials have not identified who was driving the truck. The indictment for 26-year-old Angel Aquino-Pineda of Tijuana, Mexico states he was working with someone else to export the weapons.

The case is being handled at the Corpus Christi federal courthouse. Aquino-Pineda faces up to 10 years in prison for smuggling and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
