PORTLAND - For years I've been calling Gregory-Portland Baseball the Wildcats, but this year this team wants to be called "The Wolf Pack". It's not an official change just something GP has come up with to motivate one another.
"The Wolf pack is what we say is a pack that can stick together and fight through anything," said Outfielder Ruben Martinez.
The idea is that in a Wolf Pack you can either be at the front, the middle, or the back. And nobody wants be in the back, that's the group that gets the scraps so being a part of this "Wolf Pack" breeds friendly competition.
"After games we let the other team know by howling that we just played them and won," said Outfielder Mickie Erwin.
GP meanwhile all set for their best of three series with Flour Bluff beginning on Friday. The seniors told me the that they can still remember losing to the Hornets two years ago in the playoffs and it's something that is driving them this year.
"It's definitely some history we lost to them our sophomore year in the second round of the playoffs and it's a good opportunity to pay them back," said Pitcher Travis Geiser.
