SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The U.S. Marshals Service says it has captured a fugitive who eluded authorities for 17 years.
Federal agents arrested 54-year-old Oscar Zapata Tuesday afternoon while he washing his car in San Antonio. They say he was indicted on Nov. 20, 1996, for six counts of conspiracy possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Zapata posted bond and was arrested in 1997 on separate charges. The service says he tested positive for continued use of cocaine. That resulted in a second warrant on which he was arrested Tuesday.
The service says Zapata had fled to Mexico to avoid capture. He later returned to San Antonio under the alias of Jesus Castillo.
He was taken into custody without incident. He's currently being held by the service.
