Man Who Fell 5 Stories Has Warning for High Rise Dwellers

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) - A San Antonio man who fell five stories out his apartment window and survived, despite being impaled on a sharp fence is talking for the first time.

Two years ago Ronald Mattes was leaning against his apartment window, when the window suddenly gave way and he fell onto a fence below.

Mattes was impaled in the neck and stomach and had to undergo numerous surgeries to repair the damage.

Today, Mattes is doing better despite a massive pile of medical bills.

He is suing the apartment owner claiming the windows were not secure in the frame, causing him to fall.

His attorney, Chris Mayo says anyone living on the second floor or higher should check their windows to make sure they are securely attached to the window frame.

If not, Mayo says you should repair immediately or contact your landlord so the repair can be made.
