CORPUS CHRISTI - A 23-year-old is in big trouble after slamming his Chevy into a police car early this morning. The accident happened around 2:30 am. A public information officer said the driver cruised through the light at Morgan and Staples and hit the police car going through the intersection.
The officer was transporting a prisoner at the time of the crash who ended up going to the hospital for some injuries. The driver of the Chevy took off running after the accident. Meanwhile, a witness said he ran to help the injured officer and prisoner.
"My sister patted me on the side and said go help them out," said Danny Torres Jr., "so I got out of the car and ran to the vehicle."
The police P.I.O. said the officer and prisoner involved in the crash were injured but are expected to be alright. Police eventually caught up with the man who caused the crash and said they charged him with intoxication assault.
